  3. yep - it looks a bit 'haunted house' somehow, Lucy - colours, as always, lovely in their own right - but what are you trying to achieve in these images? Are you trying to communicate confinement, for example? Also, you might want to think about being much more 'binary' in terms of colour design; for example, making the penguin enclosure a facsimile of the snow - so lots of white and swimming pool blue water (very sterile) while the view above is green and coloured and lush etc? I think the wonky bannister isn't helping either - it's giving us that Scooby-do vibe ; why don't you look at the design of lidos and swimming pools and more modernistic shapes for the penguin enclosure - and why don't you make the penguin's 'cave' into something more obviously man-made and architectural - think 'sea world' and water parks instead of real world? For example:

Indeed, if you design the penguin enclosure to be a minimalist, sleek, Modernism-style environment, then your penguin's character love of ornament, decoration and clutter becomes even more visually expressive of his 'otherness'. Modernist architecture has as its mantra 'Form Follows Function' and was highly dismissive of ornamentation and decoration - it was seen as decadent and superficial. I think you could play some very nice visual games this way - some of the pictures above are from the penguin enclosure at London Zoo - and it couldn't be any more 'of its time' (i.e. Modern, in the architectural sense). Maybe think in terms of opposing visual languages then to start moving your concept art into some different places :)

  5. Lucy these are fantastic! Keep it up and definitly experiment with the colour schemes, not because one is 'bad' while the other's 'good', but because its so interesting seeing how your scene changes in mood with each experiment. These are awesome!
