CGI Artist's Toolkit Maya: Motion Lines & MEL robot

Project 2 Secret Lairs: Further Research & story so far

Here is some more information I collected, this time on the Tuareg people;
The Tuareg People
So far, from the research I have collected, I have created this character in my head, which seems natural, relevant to context of the time, and exciting.

My character is a Tuareg Smither, crafter, Inventor, an Inadan of the early 19th Century, where his life style, culture and community were being threatened by the French, who were slowly taking over the lands, and had already for many Tuareg tribes.  He knew that to cease the invasion, he could not keep aimlessly moving, avoiding the armies. He knew he had to fight back, but the Tuareg mercenaries were no match for the technology and numbers of the French. He consoled to nature and his ancestors, and was enlightened to take cover in the mountains, and use the land, the will and force of nature to aid him. There, he began to set up his workshop, where he could build the tools he needs to prepare for the great battle which was ahead of them. He began to smith metals, and create class from the pure resources from the land, the smooth Saharan sand, and the rich minerals which lay beneath it. He reffered to the stars to inspire him for weapons, as his ancestors would arrange the skys infront of him to guide him. The blue prints set out to him in the stars became more and more like stories, as he could make out constilations like the warrior, and he was reminded of the tales of BoulKhou. He knew he was not as strong and mighty of such a fabled man, but he knew there was great meaning to this message. He began to construct armour-shapes out of glass, brining them together with bones of iron, muscles of leather. He had not the resources to power them, and he began to question why he had wasted time building an inanimate soldier. The next day, carvings in the walls of the mountains appeared, which seemed out of no where. It was a message from the mountains them selves, with Quranic prayers embedded into the walls. The inventor now knew what was the power of his instruments, and he hastily began to chip away into the glass soldier, re creating the Quranic prayer, and creating symbols of great powerful animals and nature into the glass. The glass became too hot to work on all of a sudden, the inventor withdrew from the soldier in pain from the heat. The glass started to became dark, misty inside. It was as hot as lava, but not burning the interior of the soldier. The glass was becoming obsidian in the centre, and the engravings glowing with a hopeful light. The Inadan was now clear of his purpose, to create the cells for nature's strong will to preserve their home land, as strong as the inventors own will.

I hope my story is clear and not too dull, or too typical.

Cinematic Spaces: Project 2 inspiration maps, research, thoughts.. The Saharan Inventor

The Saharan Inventor.
I was exactied until I went to research the Saharan desert. I then begun to smash my head against the desk as I kept coming to a stop, as I just found the Saharan intself so boring. It's the hottest and largest desert in the world. I kind of trapped my self in the mind set that it had to be in the middle of the desert, only when I began to think about areas surrounding the desert, and oases in the desert I began to construct ideas in my head.
Here is my very basic research so far:

Saharan and Inventors Research
I then had a lot of fun getting people tp help me think of weorkshops of inventors in film and game. Although these aren't exactly the sort of enviroment I want, I just want to collect all I can on the sort of places inventors could live.
Here are my influence maps:

I have a huge problem when to arranging images in posts! It never co-operates with me! I think I need to change my template
So, I got excited when thinking about having an Ancient Egyptian inventor, who perhaps used a strange sort of spiritual magic infused with his mechanics to  create robots, with the intent to replace slaves with robots. I would very much like to create an exciting magical themed set, which is why a lot of my influence maps are kids movies. I still am pretty stuck when it comes to ideas, though!

CGI Artist's Toolkit: Maya Character re-do & UV mapping + Basic Shading

I forgot to post my re-do of the pencil & eraser characters in maya. I didn't mess up as much this time! Aha.
Here is before, my first attemptAnd After! My remake.
This is actually the 4th time I've remade it. I kept coming across problems and would basically rage quit. But now I can practically make them from heart, haha.

Here are the basic shaders and UV map renders

Came across many many many problems with the UV mapping.
After all the UV mapping had been done, it would not allow me to save it to be edited, not as  a TIFF, JPEG, anything. I would spam OK and nothing would come of it. I closed maya, tried again, kept making sure I had the right settings, and again, nothing would happen if i clicked OK to save it. It wouldn't close, no response at all.
So, I had to make the texture print screening the UV map I had made and creating one on photoshop my self.
Then, the second problem I had, was that in the shot_cam view, it would not let me move the camera angel, or move anything within the scene, which was so annoying as it was at a very bad shot. So I had to do it in the second option, but again I found it hard to control the shot it took, and last second, one of the rotations of the cubes I made had changed. I must have pressed my keypad on one of the options for the XYZ angles. So, i had to render the image using the perspective in the second option, not the shot cam, and got this image, which I know isn't ideal, but, argh!
Alright, rant over. I will bring the file in to re render!

Cinematic Spaces: Final Presentation

Artist Research and Creative Partnership Archive

I had these in my OGR but realized not in a separate post! In case they became hard to find, I thought I'd post them separately here.

Submission disc artwork.

I had no idea how to use photoshop for graphical work, so I'm sad that my cover is so simple!
I used the large DVD case so the picture is elongated, not the CD case.
